Three people have tested positive for COVID-19 among the 34 tests conducted for South Africa women's High Performance squad and the support staff ahead of their first training camp which is due to start on July 27, Cricket South Africa announced on Friday (July 24).
Those who have tested positive "have nil to mild symptoms" and will self-isolate for a period of 10 days, and won't be part of the training camp. "Our medical team continue to closely monitor them in accordance with CSA's COVID-19 Steering Committee protocols to ensure their well-being. The players' return to train and play program will be guided by the CSA Medical Committee's protocols," stated a CSA media release.
Cricket South Africa had earlier announced a 24-member South Africa Women's squad to begin a week-long skills-based training camp in a bio-secure environment ahead of their proposed tour of England in September. Upon completion of the one-week training, the players would return to their respective provinces for individual training from August 3 to 14 before regrouping for a two-week camp from August 16 to 27.
The players and staff who have tested negative will convene at the High Performance Centre in Pretoria to complete the week-long training camp before returning to their provinces. The players and coaches, who will train and live on-site for the entire duration of the camp, will be tested again before the second camp begins.
