Minor League T20 in US likely to start from August 22

The USA is in line to to resume official domestic cricket from August as countries worldwide start loosening up their respective state of lockdowns. According to some reliable sources within the ranks of USA Cricket, the inaugural edition of Minor League T20 franchise competition could be hosted as early as August 22.
"Thats what the tentative plan is (22nd August). The team is trying to put the logistics together. If it is looking positive, then we would like to finalise 60 days prior, and prepare in full swing" said the source to Cricbuzz.
As already seen with large sized countries, US too has been privy to swarming of virus hotspots in many of its different geographical locations at different times. Cricket being a non-contact sport qualifies to be played in the phase 2 of the Re-open America guidelines set by the federal government. With the inaugural edition of the tournament fielding as many as 22 teams and with each of them having their own home grounds, it will require all the 22 cities to be in at least the phase 2 of the re-opening guidelines for the tournament to roll swiftly.
"Travel will definitely reduce. Ideally zero to minimal air travel until the knockouts (early October) which means keeping the same number of teams so they can play within a zone against each other and mostly drive and limit overnight stay to just a single night. Since the span of the tournament will be reduced from 9 weeks to 7 weeks, there might be also be a change in the maximum number of league games a team ends up playing" added the source.
Cricbuzz also learns that the organisers are all set to name some of the franchise team owners at the end of June while the player draft is tentatively scheduled around mid-July.
Originally scheduled to get underway on July 11, the Minor League T20 will underpin the USA Cricket's flagship big budget 'Major League Cricket T20' supposed to be held in the summer of 2021.
