West Indies face record chase of 346 to keep series alive
Wickets and runs
With the platform set wonderfully, Sri Lanka are looking to maximise their advantage. At this stage, wickets aren't that detrimental so the focus is to go after everything and everyone. Perera's presence has fuelled their surge post the 40-over mark and has got them soaring past 300. They've scored 61 runs in the first six overs off the final 10-over block, while losing four wickets.
Mendis falls, but Sri Lanka tee off
After getting to their hundreds, Mendis and Fernando have thrown their bats around. Mendis has fallen in that endeavour, but it's not hampered Sri Lanka's charge with Thisara Perera's promotion contributing to their burgeoning run-rate.
Hundred for Fernando, hundred for Mendis, problems for WI
This partnership is quickly going into record-breaking territory. Fernando and Mendis, after overcoming the initial hurdles, are now thriving against a West Indies attack that hasn't had much to offer since the new ball lost its hardness. Their spinners haven't posed any problems while Keemo Paul hasn't proved any more effective, to the point that Kieron Pollard tried getting some overs out of the way, although that backfired tremendously as he was hit for four boundaries in an over.
Fifties for Fernando, Mendis
Bounce has gone from adversary to ally as the Sri Lankan pair has prospered in this partnership, which has now crossed 100. Holder was witness to the transformation first-hand when he returned for his second spell. Within one over, he was spanked through point by Fernando, before being glided to the third man boundary by Mendis.

The duo have not shied away from the challenge here. They've not always been comfortable against West Indies' tall quicks, but it's not stopped them from approaching the situation positively, mostly expressing that intent through the pull shot.
West Indies seamers in the game
There's definite help with the new ball here in Hambantota. The movement's not prodigious, but it's enough to make a difference. However, it's the bounce that West Indies are relishing. The same can't be said for Sri Lanka. Kusal Mendis got one Holder delivery that reared past his bat shoulder and smacked him on the back elbow to leave him in great agony. This was after Kieron Pollard dropped him at first slip in the same over. Testing times for the hosts.
Cottrell strikes twice
Sri Lanka in trouble early, mostly by their own doing, and some of it due to Sheldon Cottrell's outswing. Karunaratne chased after a short and wide one, which kept going away and eventually came off the toe-end to present a simple catch at point. Kusal Perera fell the very next ball, attempting a blazing drive only to nick it behind for a golden duck.

Hello and welcome to the second ODI between Sri Lanka and West Indies, both of whose shortcomings were on display in Colombo. It's by dint of those shortcomings that this series becomes extremely watchable .. well, there's the scenic surroundings of Sri Lankan venues too that make for an enticing backdrop, and it'll be no different at Hambantota. West Indies have no time to wait and smell the roses though. They need a win today to keep the series alive, and in turn keep their hopes alive of a first series win in the country in over 16 years.
